Course Information

What is an award course?
An award course is any course that gives you a Certificate III, IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma.

What is a bridging module?
A bridging module either allows you to move from one type of ASIC compliance to another, or from a standalone compliance course to a full qualification. See p. 15 of the 2011 Handbook for an illustration of these pathways.

What post-nominals can I get from finishing an award course?
The Institute has no set policy regarding post-nominals for award courses. If you wish to use post-nominals, visit AQF to view examples of how you can do this.

Enrolment

When is the last day of enrolment?
It is the date that the study period commences. Refer to the current Academic Calendar for the exact date. Please be advised that you should enrol for your module/s at least three weeks prior in order to receive your study materials on time.

What does Enrolment Change Cut-off mean?
It means that if you are enrolled in a study period, you have until that date to change you module, change your study period, or withdraw from your module. If you withdraw by this date, you will receive a 75% refund of the course fee. If you withdraw after this date, you are not eligible to receive any refund.

How long does it take to receive my printed module book?
In order to receive your materials on time, you should enrol at least three weeks prior to the beginning of a study period.
Generally, once you receive your enrolment confirmation, your module book will take 10-15 business days to arrive. If you have not received your study materials in this time, please contact Customer Service.

Why does My Institute say ‘You are not enrolled in any award course modules’?
At this time, only enrolments in award courses are reflected here.

Do I get a student card?
No, so you need to remember your Master ID as this is also your Student ID.

Do I need to be a member with the Institute in order to enrol?
No, being a member is not a pre-requisite of any course, however all students will become Student Members upon enrolment.

What is the Study Centre?
At the end of 2010, parts of the website underwent changes. The 'Study Centre' is the new focal point for students. It places the materials, forums and exams all in one place. To access the 'Study Centre', log in to 'My Institute' and click on Open Study Centre'.

Assessment

Can I use dot points to answer my assignment?
Only if the question specifically asks for this. Otherwise, your assignment should contain full sentences and paragraphs.

How long should my assignment be?
The assignment sheet will give you a rough word estimate. The relevance and quality of your answer matters more to the markers. However, if your assignment is significantly longer or shorter than this estimate, you should check your assignment again as this may mean you have more information than is necessary, or not enough.

Can I work with someone to complete my assignment?
You may discuss the assignment with friends or colleagues to aid your comprehension, but the actual assignment must be entirely your own wording and work. Penalties apply for students who write their assignments together.

What if I have a question about the content of the assignment?
Post your question in the Online Discussion Forums, located in the Study Centre in 'My Institute'.

How do I submit my assignment?
You need to upload it. When you are ready to do this, log in to 'My Institute' and open the Study Centre. In the left hand menu, click on 'Assignment Submission'. On this page, click on the 'Upload' link to begin the submission process.
Please ensure that your assignment is in the proper file format and named in the correct manner. This information is available on the Assignment Submission page.

When will my assignment results be released?
Assignment results are released seven days before the exam.

Why can’t I see my assignment results when I could see them before?
The results are removed in order to tally them against the exam results to provide the final overall result.

If I fail my assignment, should I still sit my exam?
Yes, because if you pass your exam, you can transfer the successful exam mark and only need to re-enrol for the assignment. This will also cost less than enrolling again for the whole module

What happens if I cannot submit my assignment or sit my exam?
If you have extenuating circumstances, you can apply for special consideration. Special consideration covers serious medical conditions, hardship, trauma or reasons of compassion. To apply for special consideration, complete this form and send it (with evidence) to Student Support. If you do not have grounds for special consideration, then you need to re-enrol for that particular assessment.

What happens if I fail one/both of my assessments?
If you fail an assessment, you have a few options. You can:

Where are the exams held?
You can take the exam at a nominated exam venue or at your workplace with a supervisor. If you wish to take your exam at a centre, you should enrol as soon as possible, as places are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

How many sessions are available?
When you enrol, you can nominate one of four sessions:
   8.30 – 10.30am
   11.00 – 1.00pm
   1.30 – 3.30pm
   4.00 – 6.00pm
However, depending on numbers, this is subject to change. An exam confirmation is sent out three weeks prior to your exam with the details.

Can I change from a centre to a supervisor?
Yes, but your supervisor needs to be approved by the Institute. To nominate your supervisor, complete the second page of the Enrolment form.

Can I change from a supervisor to a centre?
You can request this but there is no guarantee as there are only a limited number of places available at the centres.

When are my exam results released?
They are released three weeks after the exam. Please refer to the Academic Calendar for the exact date.
